چکیده

A clinical prototype of combined Combined Positron Emission Tomography (PET) / Computed Tomography (CT) system went under the clinical evaluation in 1998. After three years of research and clinical evaluation first clinical combined PET/CT system was installed in a clinic in 2001 [1-3]. Gradually clinical utilization of combined PET/CT increased tremendously particularly in oncological imaging [3-6]. The success of PET/CT as a medical diagnostic device led to the development of other combined modality like SPECT/CT. the superiority of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) over CT as anatomical imaging device in providing unmatched soft tissue details along with a reasonable array of functional information through techniques such as MRI spectroscopy and functional MRI imaging has led to development of combined PET/MRI system. The first PET/MRI combined modality introduced in nuclear medicine practice for brain imaging to diagnose the complex disease processes based on improved and reliable anatomical and functional information provided by this combined system and gradually whole body PET/MRI is developed for clinical use [7]. Combining Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) in a single device was a challenging task as both the imaging device faced lots of interference from each other resulting in many new developments and changes in both the system [7-14]. Hence it is very important to understand the real technical problem faced by two systems in the process of combining with each other. Ways in Which PET Can Affect MRI

Neuroimaging in Iran: A Review

ABSTRACTNeuroimaging allows noninvasive evaluation of the anatomy, physiology, and function of the brain. It is widely used for diagnosis, treatment planning, and treatment evaluation of neurological disorders as well as understanding functions of the brain in health and disease. Neuroimaging modalities include X-ray computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), single photon emis...

Calculation of Positron Distribution in the Presence of a Uniform Magnetic Field for the Improvement of Positron Emission Tomography (PET) Imaging Using GEANT4 Toolkit

Introduction Range and diffusion of positron-emitting radiopharmaceuticals are important parameters for image resolution in positron emission tomography (PET). In this study, GEANT4 toolkit was applied to study positron diffusion in soft tissues with and without a magnetic field for six commonly used isotopes in PET imaging including 11C, 13N, 15O, 18F, 68Ga, and 82Rb. Materials and Methods GEA...

Detection of Alzheimer\\\\\\\'s Disease using Multitracer Positron Emission Tomography Imaging

Alzheimer's disease is characterized by impaired glucose metabolism and demonstration of amyloid plaques. Individual positron emission tomography tracers may reveal specific signs of pathology that is not readily apparent on inspection of another one. Combination of multitracer positron emission tomography imaging  yields promising results. In this paper, 57 Alzheimer's disease neuroimaging ini...

P28: Neuroimaging in Anxiety Disorders

In recent years, the development of neuroimaging techniques such as high-resolution magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), positron emission tomography (PET), or single photon emission tomography (SPECT) has promoted the identification of structural and functional characteristics underlying mental disorders to a great extent. In anxiety disorders, recent...
